21 Alive continues coverage of the story, interviewing town councilman Brock Waterson and father, Brent Augustus after the Town of South Whitley makes a public response - which can be found clicking HERE.
The South Whitley Town council says Officer Schimmel's actions were "flawed but not worthy of dismissal". Councilman Waterson gave an interview in which he said "My position is he did it by the book," I have concerns about what this book is!
He went on to say "I was advised there was no illegal activity. It's hard to fire someone if there's no illegal activity," not citing who he had been advised by.
"He (Officer Schimmel) could have had a little bit better attitude, but attitude isn't necessarily against the law..." A LITTLE BIT better attitude?!
"If Ms Augustus would have just complied, she would have been in and out in a matter of 2 minutes." An ironic statement, since the interaction with Officer Schimmel went from his approach to the vehicle to Vivian being ripped from the car with force in less than 90 seconds.
We need the community to make their voices heard! Email the town council and come to the Town Council meeting Tuesday April 23 @ 6:30pm, and if your voice can't be heard, let your presence be noticed!
Together we can get #JusticeForVivian #JusticeForAll
